Dear Parents;
It is my honor and privilege to introduce myself to you. I am Mr. Hipolito El Cairo Bueser Jr. from the Philippines. I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Masters of Arts in Education at Philippine Normal University.
Teaching is my life blood. Since child, it has been my dream to become a teacher because of the positive influence my primary teachers had made in my life. As a teacher, my mission is to make a difference in the lives of my students and help them become life-long learners, competent and well-rounded individuals. I have been teaching for eleven (11) years now. Six of which was in the Philippines and five (5) years here in the United States. My first three years of teaching experience here in the US was in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Systems where I was selected as a Teacher of the Year at Oakdale Elementary, SY 2008-2009. This school year would be my third year as part of the wonderful workforce of Neuse Charter School as a second grade teacher.
It gives me a great pleasure to have your child in my class this year. I am really excited and so looking forward to teaching and working with your child to be successful this school year. As you know, Second Grade is an important year in your child’s elementary education. It is a year of increasing demands, more rigorous challenges. Your son/daughter will build and refine many foundational skills that will help her/him be successful in the upcoming challenges she/he will be facing.
As your child’s teacher, I will do my best to work with you and help your child learns the skills necessary to make her/him performs better this year. With your support and assistance, I am confident that your child will have a smooth, fruitful and enjoyable school year.
If you wish to speak with me, don’t hesitate to call me at NCS phone number or email at hbueser@neusecharterschool.org
Thank you very much and I am so excited to working with you.
Sincerely,
Mr. Hipolito El Cairo Bueser Jr.

Dear Families,
Welcome to second grade! Thank you so much for coming to Open House on Tuesday night! I had a great night meeting and speaking with all of you. Just like your child, I look forward to an exciting and challenging year. We have many wonderful learning opportunities planned for the school year and will need your help and support for these to be effective. We view our challenge as a team effort between us, the teachers; you the parents; and the students. If we approach each situation as a team, your child will grow to his/her full potential. Please read ALL of the information below to familiarize yourself with some classroom and school policies and procedures. You may want to keep this in a safe place for future reference.
STUDENT DAY (7:45 – 3:15): Children may arrive no earlier than 7:45. Children will be counted tardy if they arrive in the classroom after 8:15. In order for you child to succeed, attendance is essential. Excessive absences will only be and obstacle for your child’s education, so let’s be sure he or she is at school unless he/she is truly sick. Dismissal is at 3:15 until 3:40. Please try to plan vacations when the children have days off.
TRANSPORTATION: Please be sure to send a note each time there is and change in how your child will go home. Please call the school to make a transportation change.
LUNCH: We will eat in the classroom or at the cafeteria. You will need to provide your child’s lunch each day. Please be advised that students will not access to refrigerators or microwaves. As some of you know last year we had Chick-fil-a Monday’s , Hot lunches on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Pizza Friday’s, once the prices are set we will contact you with the price of each.
SNACKS: We will have a snack time each morning. Therefore, I ask that you send a healthy snack for you child. Suggested snacks are fruit, popcorn, raw vegetables, crackers, cheese, etc. Children have such energy as it is – sweets only add to it! Please, no candy, and send bottled water if your child would like something to drink.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS: Parents are a vital part of our team. If you are able in any way, please volunteer. Such opportunities include reading with children, assisting during literacy workshop time, coloring and cutting materials, classroom parties, and field trips. There will be help needed both in and outside the classroom.
AGENDAS , COMMUNICATION AND TAKE HOME MONDAY FOLDERS: Your child will bring home blue homework folder everyday. A newsletter and homework assignment sheet (Homework Grid) will be placed in the folder on Monday. . Please check the folder for important classroom and school notices. Your child should bring this folder to school EVERY day. On Mondays, your child will take home a folder with marked/checked school work from the previous week. This folder also contains a sheet of paper for you to sign indicating that you have reviewed your child’s work and discussed the papers with him/her. There is a space for you to make comments about your child’s work. Please be sure to sign and return the papers that are marked “Please sign and return.” after you have reviewed them with your child.
HOMEWORK = AT HOME LEARNING: Your child can expect homework each night. The weekly newsletter with homework assignments will go home every Monday. All written homework will be placed in the homework folder and will be due the following day unless otherwise specified. A typical week will include math, reading, and spelling homework. Homework assignments should not last more than 30 minutes (not including reading). All second graders are expected to read for at least 15 minutes each night. Please let me know if homework takes your child longer or if he/she is having difficulties with homework. Please be reminded to refer to the newsletter/homework grid in the blue homework folder for the assignments.
STUDENT WORK: Please review the work your child brings home and discuss it with him/her. Out first few weeks of school may seem simple to your child. This is to help your child feel comfortable with being back in school, to feel successful in what he/she is doing, to learn the routine of a new classroom, and to assess the needs of each child.
Our Classroom Rules:
1. Sit properly and quietly
2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself
3. Listen to your teacher at all times
4. Use your inside voice when you speak
5. Raise your hand if you need something or if you wish to speak or stand
Behavior Management Policy
The teacher will use a behavior chart with color strips of paper.
.Green- Good, Well behaved
.Yellow- Verbal Warning
.Purple – Time Out/Phone Call Home
. Red- Office Referral
Each student starts everyday on green. If a student breaks one of the rules, the child will be on Yellow card which means warning. This is a warning to the child that a rule has been broken and the child’s behavior needs to improve. Usually, this is all it takes and behavior is back on track. However, if the behavior does not improve, the Blue card is pulled and the child is asked to get out of his/her desk to go to the thinking chair for time out. The child will be led through a process that helps the student evaluates his/her behavior. If the child is ready to get back on track, he/she is asked to go back to his/her desk to continue working with whatever activity the child has left off.. If a child continues the disruption in class, the child will face more serious consequences, such as exclusion from activities, loss of privileges and a phone call home. A student will move to Red if he/she continues to disturb the class routine after the above consequences, the child will receive written referral to the office and be escorted to the office for further action. If a student continues to be on Red card on consistent basis, a conference with the parents and with the director will be scheduled to discuss child’s behavior and come up with a behavior plan to help the child in redirecting his/her behavior into a positive direction. If a student keeps on green, at the end of the week he/she has an opportunity to get something from the treasure or treat box. He/she also has a chance to assist the teacher for a day or two, read to the class or to another class, extra computer time, a positive phone call home, go to the office with a good note, exemption from homework.
· Everyday your child will be bringing home a behavior chart folder which indicates his/her behavior for the day. Make sure to sign the sheet and turn it to the teacher the following day.
OTHER REWARDS: Each time the class gets a compliment they get a marble in a jar. When we have 25 marbles, we will have a class celebration.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS: Each month I hope to send home a book order giving you the opportunity to purchase quality books, software, and learning games. Scholastic offers the BEST prices for books and games. When you order, our class gets points for every dollar ordered. I use these points to add to our classroom book collection. Checks for book orders should be made payable to “Scholastic” unless otherwise noted. Please look on the back of the order form for the deadline.
DONATIONS, PLEASE!: We will be using a variety of items throughout the year for Math, Language Arts, Centers, extra snacks for those who forget and other classroom needs. If you have and extra of the following, we would be glad to have them in our class:
1 electric pencil sharpener
M&M’s and Skittles
Broom and dustpan
Vanilla wafers, goldfish crackers, pretzels
Goodies for treasure box (pencils, stickers, little toys both for boys and girls)
Sticky notes
Wrapped candy
Expo markers (bright colors)
FIELD TRIPS: Throughout the year, the second grade team will plan field trips. Field trips are fun learning experiences for children, teachers, and parents. However, because we, as school do not have buses to transport the children and carpooling is such a liability to parents/teachers /and the school, the second grade team chooses to charter a bus for all off campus field trips. As field trips are in the planning stage, you will be notified by a letter. The first stage of planning will be a letter that tells you about the field trip and asks if you are interested to letting your child participate in the particular filed trip. If there is enough interest, then there will be another letter sent home with a permission form and important information.
STUDENT TEACHER: We will have a student teacher everyday to be the classroom helper. Students will take turns, in alphabetical order, to be the daily student helper.
WATER IN THE CLASSROOM POLICY: We request that parents send their students to school with a bottle of water everyday for hydration and good health. Juice and milk are discouraged as we often eat lunch in the rooms. Juice and milk can be messy when spilled. Soda is not allowed.
REACHING ME: If you need to speak or get in touch with me, please call before 8:15 or after 3:15. During the day you may leave a message with the school secretary. I will respond to any notes sent in your child’s homework folder. You may also contact me by e-mail at hbueser@neusecharterschool.org.
Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. I look forward to an exciting year with you and your child.
Sincerely,
Mr. Hipolito El Cairo Bueser Jr.
